Gerald
Steele
Mr. Steele served on active duty from 1978 to
1990 and in the reserves from 1992 to 2005,
retiring as a Colonel. While active duty Mr.
Steele served in several squadrons as a B/N in
the A-6 Intruder. His reserve duty included
tours with the 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company
in Mobile, AL as will as the 4th MAW in New
Orleans, LA as an Intelligence Officer. Mr.
Steele is currently the Operations Manager for
The Orthopaedic Group in Mobile,
AL. |

Commandant
Larry Kent
Larry was born in Mobile, AL, and
joined the Corps in 1968. He served with 2/4 in
Viet Nam in 1969 and returned home in 1970. He
married his wife Gloria the same year. Larry
worked with the Mobile Fire Department for
twenty-four years, before moving on to work with
the Boys and Girls Club of South Alabama. He
now is the head of the Tillman’s Corner Chamber
and Community Center. Larry joined the
Detachment in 2007 and has previously served as
Judge Advocate. Has also served as Chair of the
Home for Our Troops Committee, as well as on
the Fishing Rodeo Committee.

Commandant
AB Grantham
AB served in the Marine Corps from 1967-1970
earning a Purple Heart in the Battle for Hue
City, Vietnam in February 1968. Happily
married to Dianna and father of five boys, one
daughter and Paw Paw to eight grandchildren.
Earned a MBA from the University of Alabama in
1987. Joined the P. L. Wilson Detachment,
Marine Corps League in 2007 with son Joshua
Grantham. Retired from the business world
in 1999.

Judge Advocate
Rick Ivey
Rick enlisted in the Marine Corps in July
1968.After boot camp at Parris Island, he
trained at Camp LeJune, N. C. as an 0311.
He spent a small tome in California as an MP
guarding the USS Pueblo crew. He proudly
served with K3/7 in Vietnam . During this
tour, Rick was wounded in action in Operation
Oklahoma and was then medically discharged in
1970. In 1975 Rick married Becky his wife
of 35 years. He worked for William Henry
Contracting for 18 years, after which he was
employed by the United States Postal Service
where he is currently employed. He joined
the P. L. Wilson Detachment, Marine Corps League
in 2009.

Paymaster
David Sprott
After completing two years of
Junior College in CA and therefore eligible for
the Naval Aviation Cadet Program, Dave joined
the Navy in September 1953 and reported to
Pensacola for training in January 1954. Since
age six, Dave wanted to fly off (and back onto)
carriers, but soon realized the Marine Corps was
more squared away with more Espirit de Corps, so
he applied for the Corps and was selected. In
June 1955, he became a 2ndLt with new Wings of
Gold and a new bride and spent the next 19 years
flying fighters and transports. The next 30 some
years were spent flying corporate aviation in
the Mobile and Pascagoula areas. His beloved
wife of almost 53 years passed away in May 2008,
and Dave has one son and grandson in Texas, and
one daughter and grand- daughter in Virginia.
Dave joined the Detachment in 2007 and has
served as Paymaster since 2008.

John
Reid
John enlisted in the Marine Corps in June
1963 and was discharged as a SSGT on June 1971.
He served with 2d, 5th and 1st Marine Divisions
while on active duty. As a reservist, he
served with 3d/13th Force Reconnaissance
Company. John is married with 2 sons and 4
grandchildren. He joined the Marine Corps
League, P L Wilson Detachment in April 1992.
John has previously served as the Detachment
Judge Advocate, Sergent at Arms, Adjutant,
Chaplin and Commandant, as well, as the
Department of Alabama Sergeant at Arms. In
2004, John retired from Allstate Insurance as a
Senior Staff Claims Representative.

Charlie Malone
Charlie Malone joined the Marine
Corps in January of 1954 and was immediately
sent to Paris Island, S.C. for Boot Camp. From
Paris Island, Charlie attended ITR at Camp
Pendleton and caught the June draft to Korea
where he joined the 11th Marines 1st
Division. Upon completing a tour of Duty in
Korea, Charlie returned to Camp Pendleton where
he was made a Section Chief on a 105 Howitzer.
Upon his release from active duty, Charlie
joined an Active Reserve Amtrak Unit in Mobile,
Al. in 1958. This unit was later changed to 3rd
Force Reconnaissance and in 1963 received his
“Jump Wings”. Charlie left the Reserves in
1964 and later joined the Marine Corps League in
May of 2001.
